It was in the pocket of an old well-worn pair of
over-alls that
I discovered a passion for growing posies, turning what was once
a bare neglected yard into a patchwork quilt of colors, textures
and scents.
These rhagdolls pay tribute to
all those folks out there with dirt under their nails and mud on
their knees. You know who you are. Gardeners, happily making
the world a more beautiful place one petal at a time.
The 'Garden Gal' is dressed in blue jean
over-alls with the seat pockets and metal buttons to fasten the
straps. Her Peter Pan collar blouse is often cut from
vintage fabrics from my mother-in-law's fabric basket or
vintage-like print. I just love al those 70's bright
'hippie' 'mod' geometric and floral prints. The straw hats
are hand blocked and festooned with a feather.
My 'Merry Maid' comes as above but also
has an
embroidered blue jean jacket. There are patches on at her
knees, and ribbons in her hair. A bangle of bells and
shells dangles at her wrist. She's my updated vision of
Mother Goose's 'Merry Mary Quite Contrary.'
